I am trying to live in a more thoughtful way this year. However I don’t suddenly have any more spare time or money, and I really don’t have any spare energy, so this change had to be simple and sustainable itself.
The first thing I am trying to do is reuse any gift bags and unspoiled wrapping paper. This is easy. I think these kinds of gift bags could be used quite a few times before they start looking shabby.
Then I realised that I should be using the plastic cup that I was given to buy my lunchtime coffee. These cups are great! I love mine. Full disclosure? I nearly always forget to take it with me. Could do better with this!
They have a lot of really nice stock and I have found a few good things there. There is also the bonus that the prices are really small! The only downside to them is that if you see something you like, there is only one size to choose from. I got lucky with this Banana Republic sweater though.
I am no longer using plastic wrap or paper wrap for my lunches either. I have been trying to cut out the single use packaging. So far so good and these containers have been very handy.
However. Some of my ideas have been hopeless.
I thought it would be good to put our stale bread out for the birds, so I chucked it onto the lawn and waited for all the hungry wee birds to dive down and eat it (making me feel virtuous in the process).
Instead my cat leapt out and ate one of the birds. Hmm. I did not take a photo of that.
