Computer Friends and New Years Intentions.

This is what I came home to two days ago. I had waded through one of my bad days (days where I feel successful just for being up and dressed) and I pushed the door closed, turned around to drop my bags on the floor, and came face to face with a parcel from a friend inside my computer.

Backstory: In 2010 I joined an online parenting forum and it has been one of the best things I have ever done (It is not baby centre though. Stay away from that special brand of crazy). The people on this forum are supportive and kind, very practical and funny, and really do feel like friends most days. Friends inside the computer.

I recently started a thread there to vent about some surgery that I will be having in the coming year, and it turned into a very helpful support thread where people shared all their stories and advice. That beautiful present came from one of those people. I am so touched that someone took the time to put together something simply to cheer up another person they have never met. If that’s not living thoughtfully then I don’t know what is! That fibre, for those interested, is gorgeous, soft, warm alpaca. I am very lucky.

It prompted me to think about the upcoming year in a more positive light. There are a lot of things coming that I don’t have much, if any, control over…but other things are entirely mine to control!

Here is what I intend to achieve, learn, do, create over the next year:

  • Submit a pattern to Knitty. Bonus points if they publish it!
  • Learn to knit fair isle/stranded knitting.
  • Halve my wool stash!
  • Learn one new recipe a month, photograph it, blog it. In other words, pics or it didn’t happen.
  • Plus one secret resolution that will be revealed if it succeeds…
  • Go back to swimming. Stop being such a wimp.

Do you have any goals for 2013?
